A desk cut from one slab

A live-edge desk turns a single slab into your workspace. The natural edge faces the room and the straight edge goes to your chair, or the other way around if you prefer. We plan the length, depth and height around how you actually work: monitors, a laptop, drawings or just a clean surface.

One recent piece is a live-edge black walnut desk on a sculpted matte-black pedestal with a large teardrop cutout. Two butterfly joints hold a natural check at one end, and the pale sapwood runs along the live edge.

Home office and executive desks

For home offices we build compact slab desks that fit a spare room or a nook. For executive and professional offices, a longer slab with a heavier base gives the room presence, and matching pieces like a credenza or a small conference table can come from the same flitch when the slabs allow.

Cable management and bases

Tell us what plugs in. Dave can plan a grommet or a cable path so cords drop cleanly to the floor, the same idea as the hollowed conference table base built for Akins Ford. For the base, choose a sculpted steel pedestal, steel legs, or one of the Flowyline Design steel bases on our table bases page. Their 28-inch dining and desk bases suit standard seated desks.

Woods for desks

Black walnut is the most common desk wood here, and maple, cherry, white oak and exotic slabs are also options. Slab stock changes as pieces sell, so check the Shop page or visit the gallery to see what's available.

How to order a desk

Send the room or wall size where the desk will go, your chair height, and what sits on the desk, like monitors, a laptop dock or drawings. Then pick a slab in person at the Statham gallery or from photos and the Shop page. Dave confirms the length, depth, height, base and any cable path with you before the build starts, and sends photos as it comes together.

How much does a live-edge desk cost?

How long does a custom table take?

Custom pieces can take up to six months from design to delivery, depending on the slab, drying, resin work and the shop schedule. You get a specific timeline with your quote.

Can I see the wood before I order?

Yes. The wood gallery is at 1946 Railroad Street in Statham, inside Dave's Appliance & Home. Call (706) 614-7806 to schedule a visit and walk the slabs with Dave. If you're farther away, send room measurements and photos through the quote form, pick from slabs on the Shop page, and we send photos of your slab as the build goes.

Can you build a matching conference table or credenza?

Yes, when the slabs allow. Tell us what else the office needs and we'll look for slabs with a matching look.
