What custom woodworking means at 1 of 1 Woodworker

If you search for custom woodworking in Atlanta, you will find everything from cabinet shops to hobbyists selling cutting boards. 1 of 1 Woodworker, also known as Custom Wooden Tables, focuses on one thing: one-of-a-kind tables and live-edge furniture designed and built by Dave from slabs you can see in person.

Every piece is built at our workshop and wood gallery at 1946 Railroad Street in Statham, Georgia, inside Dave's Appliance & Home. That is about 56 miles from downtown Atlanta, close enough for a day trip to pick your slab, and close enough for us to deliver your finished table to the metro area. Delivery available, quoted per order; installation quoted separately.

The name is the promise. A 1 of 1 table is not ordered from a catalog and it cannot be duplicated, because no two slabs of wood are the same. The grain, the live edge, the knots and the color of the slab you choose become the table only you own.

  • Live-edge dining tables sized to your room and chair count
  • Epoxy and resin river tables in colors you choose at the shop
  • Coffee, side and console tables, often from burls and offcuts
  • Bar tops, kitchen islands and countertops
  • Conference and boardroom tables for Atlanta offices

Why Atlanta clients drive to Statham

Wood is the hardest thing to judge from a photo. A slab of black walnut can look chocolate brown on one screen and nearly purple on another. Figure that seems subtle online can be striking in person, and the reverse is also true. That is why we encourage Atlanta clients to visit the gallery and walk the slab racks before committing to a design.

At the shop you can stand next to the actual slab that will become your table, look at both live edges, and talk with Dave about length, width, seating, base style and finish. If you want an epoxy river, you can compare resin colors against the real wood rather than a sample card.

If a visit is not practical, start on our Shop page. It lists raw one-of-a-kind slabs sitting in the Statham shop right now. Pick one you love, and we will build your table from it.

How an Atlanta commission works, step by step

Most projects follow the same path whether the table is going to a Buckhead dining room, a Midtown condo or a Sandy Springs office.

  • Send an inquiry or call (706) 614-7806 with your room size, seating count and the look you want.
  • Choose a slab at the gallery or from the Shop page.
  • Settle the design with Dave: dimensions, edge, river or solid top, base and finish.
  • Dave builds the table in Statham. For timing, see our build timeline guide.
  • Pick up at the shop, or book delivery to your Atlanta address. Installation is quoted separately.

Homes: dining tables, river tables and statement pieces

For Atlanta homes the most common request is a dining table. A live-edge walnut dining table, like the showroom piece with black resin fills documented on our Projects page, brings the character of a whole tree into the room you use every day.

Resin river tables are the other signature build. Our Midnight Sky table pairs black walnut with a deep blue epoxy river and reached 1.3 million views on TikTok. A river table works well when you love two matching live edges and want color running down the center. If you are deciding between the two styles, our river table vs live-edge guide walks through the trade-offs.

Smaller pieces are a good way to bring custom woodworking into an apartment or townhome. Coffee tables, side tables and console tables can be built from burls and offcuts that are too small for a dining top but full of character.

Offices: conference tables with a story

Atlanta has one of the largest office markets in the Southeast, and a custom conference table is one of the few pieces of office furniture clients and employees actually remember. Dave designed and built a live-edge conference table for Akins Ford in Winder, Georgia, with a hollowed leg base so electrical and data run through the structure instead of across the floor.

For a boardroom, bring us the room dimensions, the number of seats you need, and where your power and data come up through the floor. Our conference table sizing guide covers clearances and seating so the first conversation is productive.

Getting the table into an Atlanta home or office

Large solid-wood tops are heavy. Our 2,500 lb old growth redwood table is an extreme example, but even a standard dining slab needs planning. When you request delivery, tell us about stairs, elevators, tight doorways, loading docks and where the table will sit. That keeps the delivery and installation quotes accurate.

Installation can mean attaching a base on site, leveling on an uneven floor or placing a top on cabinets. Each is quoted separately, so you only pay for what you need.

Caring for solid wood in Georgia's climate

Solid wood moves with humidity, and Atlanta summers are humid. We prefer stable, kiln-dried material for indoor furniture, and our care and finish guide explains how to keep a custom top looking right for years. Because the shop is a drive away, you can always call the person who built your table if a question comes up.
