Custom Conference Tables: A Buyer's Guide for Georgia Offices

Hollowed conference table leg base with circular cutouts for hidden wiring

How to plan a custom conference table: wood, edge style, base, hidden power and data, delivery and installation. Built by 1of1 Woodworker in Statham, GA.

Why a custom conference table

A conference table is the largest piece of furniture in most offices and the one clients see first. Off-the-shelf boardroom tables are built to standard sizes from veneered panels. A custom conference table is sized to your room, built from solid wood you choose, and wired the way your team actually works.

At 1 of 1 Woodworker in Statham, Georgia, Dave designs and builds conference tables for businesses across the state, from Athens and Atlanta to smaller towns in Barrow County.

Case study: the Akins Ford boardroom table

Dave designed and built a live-edge conference table for Akins Ford in Winder, Georgia. The table anchors an executive conference room with the same one-off approach residential clients get.

The detail most offices ask about is the base. Dave hollowed the leg base so electrical and data run through the structure. Wiring stays hidden inside the base instead of draping across the floor or the tabletop, and circular cutouts and a custom stretcher make the base a designed element rather than an afterthought.

Step 1: Size the table to the room

Start with the room, not the table. You need enough clearance around the table for chairs to pull out and people to walk behind them. Our conference table sizing guide covers seating counts and clearances in detail.

Bring us the room dimensions, door locations, the number of seats you need day to day, and the number you need for your biggest meetings.

Step 2: Choose the top

Most conference tables we build fall into one of three styles.

  • Live-edge: the natural edge of the slab stays on, giving the table an organic, memorable look.
  • River: two live edges with epoxy resin poured between them, in a color that can echo your brand.
  • Clean commercial edge: a straight, squared edge for a more traditional boardroom, still in solid wood.

Step 3: Plan power and data

This is where custom pays off. Before the build, tell us where power and data come up through the floor, how many people need to plug in, and whether you use a center conferencing device. The base and top can be planned around those points, as with the hollowed Akins Ford base, so cords stay out of sight.

Step 4: Pick the base

Long conference tops are heavy, and longer spans need stronger bases or joinery planning. Options include steel bases, custom wood trestles, and heavier commercial bases. The 2,500 lb old growth redwood table in our Projects page, on a custom X-frame metal base, shows how a base can carry a monumental slab.

Step 5: Delivery and installation

A boardroom table often has to travel through lobbies, elevators and hallways. Share loading dock access, elevator size, door widths and building hours so we can plan the route. Delivery available, quoted per order; installation quoted separately.

Installation can include attaching the base on site, leveling on an uneven floor and connecting the top to the base.

What drives the quote

Length, width and thickness of the top, species and slab character, resin work, base complexity and wiring all affect cost. Our cost guide walks through each factor. Every quote is free.
