Caring for Your Custom Wood or Epoxy Resin Table

Wood rounds set in resin inside molds, ready for polishing

How to care for a custom wood, resin or epoxy table finish: cleaning, heat, coasters, and what to avoid. Advice from 1of1 Woodworker in Statham, Georgia.

Finish is part of the design

The topcoat protects the wood (and resin, when present) and sets sheen — from a soft hand-rubbed look to a deeper gloss. We choose and apply finish for how you will use the table: family dining, display, or daily meetings.

Good care keeps that work looking intentional for years without aggressive refinishing.

Daily habits that help

Use coasters and trivets for hot cookware and mugs. Wipe spills promptly with a soft, damp cloth, then dry. Avoid flooding the surface with water or cleaners.

  • Soft cloths only — skip abrasive pads and powders.
  • No harsh solvents unless we specifically approve them for your finish.
  • Lift objects rather than dragging them across the top.

Heat, sun, and climate

Extreme heat can mark finishes and resin. Keep hot pans off the surface. Strong, continuous direct sun can fade wood over time — curtains or placement help in bright Georgia rooms.

Stable indoor humidity is kinder to solid wood than wild swings. That is one reason kiln-dried material and thoughtful finish systems matter from day one.

Resin and epoxy river tables

Epoxy rivers and inlays dislike abrasive scrubbing and sharp impacts. Clean gently; ask us before using any polish product marketed for “all surfaces.”

When to call the maker

Deep scratches, finish wear in a high-use zone, or questions about refresh coats are worth a conversation with the shop that built the piece. Bring photos — we can advise whether a simple care tweak or a professional touch-up makes sense.
